Tom Rennolds, is a young man of surprising vision, having lost in the final of Masterchef, he didn’t lay down lightly. Instead, together with his best friend Jonny Ross, he decided to jump in a camper van and set off on a tour around Yorkshire, celebrating the best that Yorkshire food has to offer from producers to pubs and restaurants.
The idea was born out of away to promote the up and coming Ilkley Food Festival in July, and so they approached Welcome to Yorkshire for backing. The team enlisted the help of the videography studies department at Leeds University and set out to film a weeks long celebration of food and fine wine…lucky so and sos I here you say?
Well deserved in my book, not only is Tom helping to further promote the face of excellence in Yorkshire, but he is managing to bring together two of the region’s biggest agencies, Welcome To Yorkshire and Deliciously Yorkshire in one simple exercise.
Off camera, I’d say he was a fairly unassuming Yorkshire lad, with a certain boyish charm that I’m sure will appeal to many a Yorkshire lass and beyond, but get him behind a camera, and he’s like a duck to water, it’s as if he was always meant to be there. I for one would not be surprised if he becomes one of the next TV celebrity Chefs, so watch out James Martin and Jamie Oliver, the next generation has arrived!
On his visit to the Angel during the tour Tom suggested “Imagine a Yorkshire show, in London, on a scale with say The France Show at Earls Court, we ship in livestock for displays and exhibit food producers, tastings, Yorkshire Chef cookery demonstrations, it could be massive.” Well, I thought, never mind ‘watch out James Martin’ I’d say ‘watch out Gary Verity!’ this man’s got vision!
